  1. Carbon black application

Carbon black is a fine granular and black powdered material produced by cracking and incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons (hydrocarbons such as oil or natural gas).

Carbon black is mainly used in rubber, coatings, plastics and other industries. The rubber industry accounts for most of the consumption of carbon black. According to statistics, more than 60% of the carbon black is used in the rubber industry. Carbon black has good heat resistance, chemical resistance and light resistance, and about 10% carbon black is used as pigment in ink, plastic and paint, which is called pigment carbon black or coloring carbon black.

2. Carbon black production technology

The production methods of carbon black mainly include furnace method, channel processing and thermal cracking method.

Furnace method refers to the production of carbon black from natural gas or high aromatic hydrocarbon oil by incomplete combustion or pyrolysis in a reaction furnace. This kind of carbon black is known as furnace black, and it is the largest yield of carbon black varieties. Channel processing method is to produce carbon black with natural gas as the main raw material and channel steel as the flame contact surface, which is called channel black. Then let’s take a look at the thermal cracking method. This method refers to the pyrolysis of natural gas, coke oven gas or heavy liquid hydrocarbon to form carbon black at high temperature without oxygen or flame.

So what are the differences among these three methods?

The degree of fusion or coalescence of particles in furnace black can be adjusted according to different uses. The particles in the channel black are relatively fine and the specific surface area is large. Thermal cracked carbon black has the smallest specific surface area. It exists in a single spherical particle and does not fuse or coalesce into a focus unit.

3. Carbon black grinding machine

It is known that carbon black can be applied in many fields. To be honest, the requirements for carbon black are also different in these areas.

Shanghai Clirik Machinery has devoted to carbon black grinding equipment for several years. According to customers’ feedback, here are two grinding machines that performs well in carbon black production lines.

As shown above, this is the structure of Raymond grinding mill. In general, the carbon black used for fillers in rubber industry requires 325 mesh fineness. Raymond grinding machine can totally meet this demand.

This is HGM series superfine grinding machine. We have recommended HGM80 to the customers. And this machine has been put into use for many years. The carbon black powder processed by this machine can reach between 2000 and 2500 mesh.

More information of this equipment can be found in the following video.
